Untig, Freeholder Director Susan Zellman and Freeholders Harold Wirths and Glen Vetrano, accepted a $200,000 Federal Housing and Urban Development Grant from U.S. Congressman Rodney P. Frelinghuysen. In a statement Frelinghuysen said "Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our citizens and our homeland." "As Congress works with the President to create the new Department of Homeland Security, we know that it is the top priority of our county government and municipalities to help our first responders train for, prevent and treat our citizens in the event of another terrorist attack." "Our Office's of Emergency Management, Sheriff's, fire, police and emergency medical personnel are on the front lines and were on September 11th and thereafter in the war against terrorism, so that's why it is so important they have the tools and the resources to protect our families and our neighborhoods." "Today, I am very pleased to present Sussex County with a $200,000 Federal Housing and Urban Development grant I secured in the Fiscal Year 2002 budget for your Office of Emergency Management." "Let me also take the opportunity to thank the county Freeholders, the Sheriff, OEM director and the fine men and women who either work in or volunteer in our area's emergency services." "You were there for us on September 11th, and I know I speak on behalf of many when I say that all of us are glad you remain on the job and will be there for us again!" Untig said portions of the money will be utilized to upgrade the county radio communications system and a countywide photo identification will be developed for all police, fire and emergency medical service units. |
